According to La Liga, Real Madrid sign French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from PSG on loan.

The Frenchman arrives in Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain on a year-long loan with Keylor Navas heading in the opposite direction.

Areola underwent his medical examinations last weekend and arrives at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to provide backup for Thibaut Courtois.

The 26-year-old is no stranger to LaLiga Santander, having defended Villarreal’s goal in the 2015/16 season, playing 37 games and conceding 32 goals.

Those respectable numbers contributed to his return to PSG, where he has been playing for the last three seasons.

However, he has been unable to hold down the No.1 spot on a permanent basis and the arrival of Keylor Navas in the French capital meant he would again be likely to be a backup option.

After speaking with Zinedine Zidane, Areola approved of the loan move to Madrid although he knows he will not find it any easier to earn minutes at Los Blancos.

Areola is currently on duty with France and will begin training with his new team after the international break.
