Bologna coach: Referee could’ve gone to look at De Ligt incident on VAR

Bologna assistant manager Emilio De Leo suggests the referee viewing the Matthijs de Ligt incident on VAR “would’ve been a nice gesture.”

De Ligt mis-kicked the ball on to his trailing arm in stoppages and the officials in the VAR booth informed the referee after a ‘silent check’ that there was no need for him to conduct an on-field review.

Juventus won the match 2-1 in Turin with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Miralem Pjanic.

“It seems to me that the arm is excessively wide, regardless of De Ligt’s clumsy intervention,” De Leo told DAZN.

“The referee could’ve gone to look at it on VAR. It would’ve been a nice advert for Serie A, to show our club was being properly protected.

“We would’ve appreciated it if the referee had conducted an on-field review himself.”
