Juan Andujar Oliver, MARCA’s referee expert, has insisted that Artur Dias made the right decision to bring play back for a foul on Marcelo, when Paris Saint-Germain were originally awarded a freekick.
Thibaut Courtois was penalised by the referee for bringing down Mauro Icardi and was subsequently sent off.
After consulting VAR, Dias changed his mind and instead gave a freekick for Real Madrid for a foul by Idrissa Gueye on Marcelo earlier in the move.
As a result, Courtois’ red card was rescinded.
“[It’s] the right decision,” Andujar Oliver told Radio MARCA.
“The foul on Icardi had to be a penalty and a yellow card but the referee saw the previous foul on Marcelo thanks to VAR.”
