Zidane: Madrid want to make history in the Copa, Hazard not yet trains with team

Victory over Unionistas put Real Madrid into the draw for the next round of the Copa del Rey, with the club still battling for success on three fronts, however Zinedine Zidane has made clear he wants to make history in the competition.

The timing of the clash with Real Zaragoza is generally good for Los Blancos, with their recent form having been nothing short of excellent, however the upcoming Madrid derby in LaLiga Santander does heightened the negative impact any further injuries will have.

“We want to make history in the Copa del Rey,” Zidane told the press.

“I don’t think there is a lack of motivation, we have to see that the club has won the tournament 13 times, and that’s very good.

“We respect every competition that we’re in, and I think for us the motivation is very high.”

Eden Hazard is still pencilled in to return for the Champions League tie with Manchester City later in the season, but Zidane has been left puzzled by the lack of output from his forward players of late.

“Hazard has started working on the pitch again, but not yet with the team,” Zidane added.

“We will see this week how he is managing his recovery.

“Before attacking, we must defend and be intense, we are doing quite well but you always have to be ready to prove it.”

The January transfer window is coming to a close later on in the week, and aside from the arrival of Reinier, there has been little to no action from Los Blancos.

With their rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid linked with moves for Rodrigo Moreno and Edinson Cavani respectively, Zidane quickly rebuffed any such suggestion that his team aren’t necessarily strengthening.

“Until January 31, anything can happen at every club,” Zidane confirmed.

“I have my squad, and as I always say, they are the best.

“I work with them without ever thinking about what happens elsewhere, and I’m sure this is the same at all other clubs.”
