Gerard Pique says the Barcelona players are united, despite that current La Liga champions suffered a shock defeat against Athletic Bilbao, being eliminated from the King’s Cup.

The 1: 0 defeat against Athletic Bilbao prompted Barcelona to be eliminated from the King’s Cup quarter-final on Thursday, due to a late goal scored by Inaki Williams in the final minutes.

The defeat came in the wake of criticism from sports director Eric Abidal, who questioned the work of players under dismissed coach Ernesto Valverde. This comments forced Leo Messi to react.

“This is not the right time to bring the things in public. The dressing room is completely united, ”Pique said after the match.

“Elimination is a big blow but, in the dressing room, we said we were one step ahead and played well, despite all the noise we had around us.”

“We have to focus on the matches and win. We have to go back to the victories. The players have the ability to keep winning and we are working on that every day. ”

Since Barcelona are still in La Liga, three points behind Real Madrid and in the Champions League, Pique said: “We have enough confidence and talent to win the two remaining titles.”
