Premier League clubs ‘want Manchester City punished for breaching

Manchester City need to be punished for breaking Financial Fair Play rules, according to their Premier League rivals but relegation would be a step too far.

City were handed a two-year suspension from competing in European competitions by UEFA last week while the reigning Premier League champions also received a £25million fine for FFP breaches.

According to The Athletic, many of England’s top-flight sides are torn on what should happen to the club while many agree they need to be severely punished for breaking the rules.

The report suggests that many Premier League clubs are feeling aggrieved over the prices City paid for the players, which in turn inflated prices in the transfer market.

It goes on to claim that there is an ‘unhappiness and disbelief’ at the aggressive PR campaign employed by City to clear their name rather than accepting the ban.

While there is talk of a ban and further punishment, relegation from the Premier League would be considered too harsh and would turn the league into ‘a circus’.

City are confident they will have their banned overturned by CAS.
