Ronaldo called Florentino before El Clasico and got invited

Just over a week ago, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez received an unexpected phone call.

With Serie A suspending matches because of coronavirus, Cristiano Ronaldo thought it was the best chance to return to a place where he’d spent nine years.

The Portuguese forward called the Real Madrid president and was duly invited to watch the Clasico against Barcelona on Sunday at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

With Ronaldo’s presence assured, Real Madrid got to work in preparing for the arrival of one of their former stars.

There were suggestions to put him in a box but, seeing as he’s still an active player, the best thing to do was to put him in a discrete place.

The club have plenty of private boxes dotted around the stadiums for situations like this and that’s where Ronaldo was housed.

Los Blancos did everything they could to try and limit the furore around Ronaldo’s arrival, but that wasn’t possible as he was spotted both in Madrid beforehand and entering the stadium.

After the match was played and won, Ronaldo and Real Madrid both left delighted having renewed old friendships, especially after the forward’s tumultuous departure in 2018.
