Nemanja Matic is in talks with Manchester United over signing a new two-year contract worth £140,000 a week according to The Sun.
The Red Devils only just triggered a clause in the Serbia international’s current deal on Tuesday to keep him at the club for a further year.
An Old Trafford source told The Sun: ‘It was only announced earlier this week about the extra 12-months on his deal.
‘Ole and Nemanja have had a chat and he’s been told the plan for the future. Ole will also speak to the board.
‘He needs to keep up his form on the field. He will also get a small bump up. It’s been a brilliant return to form really.’
The midfielder had just over three months left on his contract but United opted to extend his stay until at least 2021.
Matic had looked destined to leave United in the summer with several clubs around Europe, including Inter Milan, waiting to sign him on a free.
Before training at United’s Carrington complex was cancelled due to coronavirus, Solskjaer instructed coaches to work with Matic on his own, according to The Athletic, as reported by Metro.
Several players including Matic were reportedly asked to carry out extra 20-30 minute sessions.
