Marcelo is one of the best left backs in football history and a mainstay of the UEFA Champions League. The Real Madrid legend just won his fifth UCL in the 2021/22 season, and while the 34-year-old was a backup player, he did still get 94 minutes of action off the bench in football’s main competition.
There has been a lot of talk about where Marcelo could play next season, and there are a lot of clubs outside of Europe’s top five lining up for him. Even within LaLiga, Real Valladolid and the legendary Ronaldo Nazario have been linked.
But there is a more intriguing option. Serie A champions Milan have submitted an offer to Marcelo and are serious about signing the Real Madrid icon as a free agent, per a report from Ozgur Sancar of Diario AS.
The problem is that Milan is offering three million euros in salary to Marcelo. That is fair for Milan, who do not have a ton of cash to spend, to offer a backup left back. But since Marcelo made six million euros per year at Real and could get that same money from a club outside Europe’s top five, it is fair for him to hold out for more.
If the Rossoneri really want the veteran Brazilian as the backup to another former Real Madrid player, Theo Hernandez, then they could push to make this happen. It would be wild for them to overpay for Marcelo, but he has great experience in the Champions League and is still a dangerous presence in the attack with his technical quality and football IQ.

What this means is the champions of Serie A and a team headed for a return to the Champions League has significant interest in Marcelo: the icon could indeed face Real Madrid in the UCL next season. Either for the Rossoneri or for another club.
