As Manchester United continue to chase Frenkie de Jong, a fresh update from SER has reported that the Dutch midfielder is refusing to leave the team.

De Jong, 25, is well aware of all the movements taking place between Barcelona and Manchester United. He understands that the Premier League side is very much interested, but his desire has always been to continue at Barcelona.

“You’re always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player but I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment and I feel fine there.” the midfielder was recently quoted as saying.

As of today, there is still no agreement between Barça and United after the latter’s first approach of €60 million plus €20 million in add-ons was turned down.

The plan for them is to at least coup the €75 million that they paid Ajax in 2019 for his services. This is where they will start considering any offers for the 25-year-old.

United know breaking Barcelona’s resolution will be tough, but they are still hoping to take good advantage of the Blaugranas’ troubling financial situation.

As such, Barcelona are in no hurry to sanction any sale as Xavi has clearly stated that he wants the midfielder to continue. Above all, his departure will not make a huge difference anyway in terms of the Financial Fair Play.

Despite all that, SER believes Barcelona and Man United ‘are very close to reaching an agreement’, and all that remains is the approval of the player himself.

€80 million is the amount Barcelona are hoping to earn from his sale. The sporting aspect may take a hit but economically, this will be a good enough figure for the team to reinvest in the transfer market.
