Manchester United have rejected Barcelona’s attempt to sign their captain Harry Maguire as part of a deal for Frenkie de Jong.
United are making progress in discussing a deal for the Dutchman, with a € 65m fee being discussed plus bonuses that could see him rise to around milionë 72m.
As reported by The Sun, Barcelona tried to sign Maguire as part of the deal, but new United coach Erik ten Hag wants to keep the center-back.
De Jong is seen as Ten Hag’s top priority in this transfer window, with the duo previously working together at Ajax.
United midfield needs a renewal and it is thought de Jong could have a big impact in pushing the team to work as a more cohesive unit.
It is clear that United are looking for midfield reinforcements in any case, with Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all leaving the club.
