Although he was on the doorstep of Milan, Sven Botman eventually left for England and signed for Newcastle, and the transfer received official confirmation tonight.
The 22-year-old stopper had an impressive performance in Lille’s jersey and quickly attracted the attention of the giants to himself, apparently judging the money in the end.
The Wizards made the third biggest transfer in history because Botman will pay around 40 million euros. They gave more money only for Jolint on (44 million) and Bruno Guimaraes (42.1).
“I am extremely grateful that I was allowed to wear the Lille jersey for two years. It was an amazing journey with two great trophies and memories that I will never forget.
“Thank you Lille for everything,” Botman wrote earlier on his Instagram. Botman became the national champion in Lille, after which he won the French Super Cup with the French club.
Newcastle United announced that Botman will sign a contract until the middle of 2027, and tonight the English club confirmed that the job is done.
Ajax will also receive several million due to the transfer of Botman, although he never played in the first team of the team from Amsterdam. Ajax receives around three million euros through the resale percentage after this transfer.
For the four-time English champions, this is the third confirmed reinforcement after goalkeeper Nick Pope who came from Burnley for 11.5 million euros and left back Matt Target who was paid 17.5 million euros at Aston Villa.
