Every footballer’s dream is to win at least once the prestigious trophy, the Golden Ball. It is not often that such an award is won by a defender as the last to make a major breakthrough in this regard was the Italian, Fabio Cannavaro in 2006.
An achievement that Sergio Ramos has persistently sought to repeat. The Spanish defender claimed that 2020, when he won La Liga with Real Madrid, could be the right year for him. Recently, an audio was discovered where the Spaniard seeks the help of the president of La Liga, Rubiales. “Put your contacts to work”, Ramos tells the president while emphasizing that he had never asked for any favors in his career.
“I never asked you for anything, but I have to do it now because I feel it was a special year for me. I had a very good performance, I want you to help me with everything I can to win the Golden Ball.
Put your contacts to work in UEFA. “I would be grateful for life, it would be a good thing not only for me, but also for Spanish football because it deserves it,” Ramos told the president. In the end, however, Ramos was unlucky as in 2020 the Golden Ball was not awarded as a result of COVID-19.
