Newcastle to keep £40m man amid Tottenham and Chelsea links

Jetro Willems has told The Chronicle that Newcastle must keep Allan Saint-Maximin this summer and urged his old side to ignore any interest – amid reports Tottenham and Chelsea want to sign the French winger.

Saint-Maximin, 25, has been strongly linked with the exit door – ever since he made comments towards the end of last season. However, he has a contract on Tyneside until the summer of 2026 for the Toon.

Reports claim that Newcastle ace Saint-Maximin has interest from both Tottenham and Chelsea with a £40million move on the cards. However, Chelsea are also keen on Raheem Sterling and Raphinha. Spurs have signed Richarlison.

It now looks more than likely that Saint-Maximin will remain on Tyneside. His old Newcastle teammate Willems has had his say on the rumours, telling Newcastle to keep the French magician over the course of the next two months.

“Me and Max still speak and have contact. He is a nice guy and my best friend there. He’s a brilliant player. I hope they will keep him because I saw some rumours but, potentially, he will become one of the biggest ones.”

Newcastle must keep Saint-Maximin amid Tottenham and Chelsea reports

Earlier this summer, it looked as if Newcastle would cash in on Saint-Maximin. The Frenchman had spoken of his frustration at not producing better stats, suggesting better teammates would reflect more goals and assists.

But as we enter July, and with his contract still lasting for another four years, it looks as if he will remain. Spurs will certainly not be in the market for another attacker, until at least they sell, after signing Richarlison.

Chelsea prefer the likes of Sterling and Raphinha. At this stage, Saint-Maximin would be a top signing. But the chances are, unless something changes, he will be wearing black and white stripes next season.
