Tottenham loan deal for Barcelona player about to be confirmed

It is now clear that Tottenham are going to sign Clement Lenglet from Barcelona, a deal that will be confirmed and officially announced soon.

Personal terms were agreed last week and the clubs are in the midst of tying up some loose ends. It’s expected Lenglet will arrive in north London on a one-year loan deal. There is no word yet on whether an option to buy will be included in the agreement.

While unconfirmed, there are reputable reports suggesting Tottenham are willing to pay about £115,000 of Lenglet’s £200 000 weekly salary. The left-footed left back will battle Ben Davies for a starting spot in Spurs’ back three.

Davies enjoyed a sterling end to the 2021-22 campaign, making it his position to lose. However, Davies can also seamlessly slide into the left wingback role, where Spurs are suddenly flush with reinforcements.

Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon, the latter of whom will more than likely depart Spurs this summer, are Antonio Conte’s current options. Djed Spence is also a primary Tottenham target, with discussions still ongoing between Fabio Paratici and Middlesbrough about the youngster’s future.

Much has been made about Lenglet’s career trajectory, which has taken a sharp turn for the worse in recent seasons, especially last year. He started only seven La Liga matches for Barcelona and was, at best, a fringe player for the Catalan club.

He is, however, still only 27 years old and could easily turn his career around under the expert guidance of Antonio Conte, who has spoken directly to the player about the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club project.

Lenglet is keen on playing for Conte, one of the factors that is contributing most to the Frenchman’s desire to play for the north London club.

Expect this deal to be confirmed in the next few days and prior to Spurs departing next week for their pre-season tour.
