Billionaire Barcelona forward refuses to leave the club because of his ‘businesses’

Martin Braithwaite’s tenure at Barcelona has been, let’s say, below par. The Dane has always struggled to fit into the Suarez-shaped hole left at the heart of the attack for Barcelona.

Nobody can really blame him because it was an unusual signing from the beginning with his role seeming very unsure under all of his coaches from Quique Setien to Ronald Koeman.

However, the Dane has never been further from the first team of the Blaugranas given how there’s barely any slot for him in Xavi’s plans. During the 2021/22 season, Braithwaite had minimal involvement with the squad, with Luuk de Jong taking up his spot as the backup striker.

The Dane seemed like a sure-fire departure from the wage books at Barça at the end of last season due to Barcelona’s already jam-packed attack, plus the obvious problem of Barca wanting to reduce its wage bill.

The former-Leganes striker seems to have a different plan in mind as he is reportedly happy to stay and fight for his place with the Catalan outfit, according to La Porteria.

Reports suggest Braithwaite doesn’t want to leave as he is currently on high wages at Barça, and will not get a similar pay-day if he looks to play elsewhere. Further, he is a billionaire with several businesses in the city.

He has reportedly has had interest from Celta Vigo, Valencia, and Brighton & Hove Albion, in the last few months which seem to have died down.

Joan Laporta and Mateu Alemany will definitely be on the lookout for interest from other clubs from the Dane as they look to offload him sooner rather than later, so as to lighten the load on Barça’s wage structure.

The Catalans are seemingly set on getting the services of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski to help out their search for silverware next season. The Pole, coupled with the likes of Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaves no place for Braithwaite.

One glimmer of hope for Laporta could be the 2022 Qatar World Cup, and Braithwaite’s keenness to be in the Danish National Team for the tournament. He needs some game time to be included in the national squad, and might force a move in hope of the same.
