Diego Simeone wants to make Cristiano Ronaldo his number 1 transfer target for Atletico Madrid this summer, according to reports.
But the Spanish giants will need to raise 40 million euros in sales if they want to finance a deal for the Portuguese superstar.
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is said to be ready to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 37-year-old star has told United he wants to leave in order to continue playing in the Champions League.
The Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League last season – a position which qualified them for the Europa League.
Atletico are in the Champions League and AS understands the Argentine tactician likes the idea of signing Ronaldo.
Simeone believes the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could be the perfect replacement for Luis Suarez – who left at the end of last season when his contract expired.
But to do this, they will first have to sell players in the amount of 40 million euros.
There is also the concern about him being a Real Madrid legend – Atletico’s bitter rivals.
Ronaldo was the king of Madrid when he scored 311 goals in 292 La Liga games between 2009 and 2018, in a period that also saw him win the Champions League four times.
And it made him public enemy No 1 with Atleti – but now he could be set to join them in sensational fashion.
