Little-known Argentine Dario Conca was once the third highest paid player in world football, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
In 2011, Conca was part of the Fluminense club and played a key role in the team winning their first Brazilian championship since 1984, before moving to China.
He was also voted the best player in the Brazilian Serie A in 2009 and 2010. As a result of his performances, many clubs around the world were interested in bringing Conca into their ranks.
However, the midfielder was against a move to a major European club and instead moved to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande after a lucrative deal was reached for the Fluminense club.
The Chinese club spent a then-record $10 million on him. Conca signed a two-and-a-half-year deal, earning him £170,000 a week, making him the third highest paid player in the world.
