He also asked for a bonus of 10 million euros just for signing and a guarantee that he will be paid all the money he did not receive on time from the club during the difficult days with three percent interest on all money.
Through his father, Messi also asked to be allowed to leave the club whenever he wanted, for a symbolic sum of 10,000 euros. The clause of 700 million euros for leaving should have been abolished.
Negotiations for a new contract between Messi and Barcelona began in 2020. They fought for a long time, and then the famous “birofax” affair broke out when he asked to leave the club a year before the expiration of the contract worth just over 555 million euros signed in 2017.
