The English football public is in shock, there is condemnation from several sides for the start that caused a serious injury to 17-year-old Will Alves from Leicester, for whom the season is over.
In the FA Youth Cup match between Leicester and Wolverhampton, Wolves’ Caden Voise committed a highly unsporting foul on Alves and was immediately red carded, leading to a ruckus on the pitch. Alves has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and will be out for around nine months.
Leicester first-team manager Brendan Rodgers, who knows Alves well, recently gave him a chance to make his debut for the Foxes’ senior team in the League Cup and said it was one of the roughest starts he had seen in his career.
It is shameful that a 17-year-old commits such fouls in which the intention is not to kick the ball, but to injure the opponent.
