Luka Modric informs Real Madrid of his contract decision

Luka Modric has told Real Madrid he will stay at the club for at least one more season.

The midfielder is one of the greatest footballers of all time, having won a Ballon d’Or and five UEFA Champions Leagues during his time at Real Madrid. Even though he’s now 37-years-old, Modric is still performing at the highest level for Los Blancos.

Despite these high-level performances, Modric’s age has meant that Real have begun to sign long-term replacements for the aging Croatian and long-term brother-in-arms Toni Kroos.

In recent years, big money has been spent on Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga – who has remarkably developed into one of the best full-backs in Europe – and are now nearing and agreement to sign England superstar Jude Bellingham.

The pending signing of Bellingham had notably cast doubt over Modric’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu due to a potential lack of gametime next season.

Despite this, and interest from Middle East and MLS clubs, Modric has confirmed his commitment to the club for one more year.

Speaking to Cadena SER after last weekend’s Copa del Rey final win over Osasuna, Modric confirmed his intentions to stay at the club: “My idea is to continue here at Real Madrid, for sure. Real Madrid is the club of my life.”
