Leao in a race against time to be fit for the second leg against Inter in the Champions League.

Rafael Leao was forced to miss the first leg of the Champions League semi-final between Milan and Inter and has no intention of missing the decisive match next week.

The 23-year-old Portuguese did not participate in Milan’s 2-0 loss to Inter on Wednesday after suffering a thigh muscle injury early in the victory over Lazio last weekend.

Leao’s absence was sorely felt, and Milan failed to impress against Inter, leaving them with an uphill battle in the second leg if they want to qualify for the final, where they will face the winner of the Manchester City-Real Madrid clash.

According to the media outlet Calciomercato.com, Leao wants to be in shape and ready for Milan’s return match against Inter and is working hard on his recovery in training.

He will not participate in their Serie A match against Spezia over the weekend. Nevertheless, Leao and Milan are optimistic that he will be available for the second leg against Inter.

On Sunday or Monday, Leao will continue to increase his workload, and it is hoped that he will rejoin squad training, allowing him to build some match fitness before Tuesday evening.
