English club Liverpool have reportedly emerged as favorites to sign Celta Vigo’s new midfielder Gabri Veiga.
The Reds are on the verge of signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton after transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Argentine has agreed a five-year deal with the Merseyside club.
However, Jurgen Klopp is wasting no time in finding new transfer targets, with Veiga the latest name to be linked with a move to Anfield.
The 20-year-old midfielder has enjoyed an excellent season in La Liga, scoring 11 goals and providing a further four assists.
He recently added to the interest around him, scoring twice against Spanish champions Barcelona on Sunday and leading his side to a 2-1 victory.
According to The Guardian, a number of Premier League clubs have shown interest in Veigan including Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Chelsea.
However, according to the Northern Echo, it is Liverpool who have the upper hand, as the club’s interest is said to be at an “advanced stage”.
“As things stand, Anfield is considered the most likely destination for Veigas once the transfer window officially reopens at the end of this month,” writes the Northern Echo.
The Reds will likely have to trigger Veigas’ release clause, which is reported to be around £35m, in order to land the Spaniard.
But, it is said that “there is a will to meet the demands of Celta Vigo to postpone an agreement”.
