There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Ousmane Dembele in recent days. Reports suggest Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the Barcelona winger, who has less than 12 months left on his current contract.
On June 1, Dembele’s release clause at Barcelona was reduced from €100 million to €50 million, and the player himself would earn half of that amount if the clause is activated.
However, it is only active until Tuesday (August 1), after which it returns to 100 million euros.
As a result, PSG only have until the end of Monday to activate Dembele’s €50 million release clause, after which they will have to pay double to sign him.
Xavi Hernandez is confident of retaining Dembele’s services, although he admitted he cannot absolutely guarantee the Frenchman will stay.
Barcelona hope to agree a new contract with Dembele in the coming weeks, although they will rely on him rejecting PSG’s advances if the French champions activate his release clause.
