Reports on Saturday suggested that Roma had prepared a new offer for Marcos Leonardo – a fixed fee of €11m with €7m in add-ons, as well as a 10 per cent resale clause in the future. Santos has set a price of 15 million euros for the striker.

Di Marzio highlights how Marcos Leonardo’s agents will contact Santos today to try to unblock talks with Roma, hoping to push through a move soon.

The deal was also affected by the off-field issues of Santos’ sporting coordinator, Falcao, who is said to have been accused of assault.

Roma are also concerned that the Brazilian side could end negotiations if Chelsea sign 18-year-old striker David Washington.
