Arsenal are the winners of the Community Shield trophy for 2023 after winning against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on penalties, while regular time ended in a draw (1-1).

This competition pits the winner of the Premier League against the winner of the FA Cup in English football, while when the winner is the same (as in the 2022/2023 season, which was the Citizens), then the match takes place against the runner-up of the league.

Kai Havertz on two occasions and Gabriel Martinelli had good opportunities for the Gunners in the first half, but they were not concrete, while the goalkeeper Stefan Ortega was in place.

As the second half began, John Stones headed dangerously wide from a corner, but goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s save was superb.

The score was unlocked in the 77th minute with a beautiful goal from Cole Palmer, who was assisted by Kevin De Bruyne’s header and struck from inside the area.

Phil Foden and Rodri had two more good chances for the English champion, but in both cases Ramsdale intervened.

In the 11th minute of extra time, Leandro Trossard equalized the scores to send the match to penalties.

After the execution of the penalty shootout, the Arsenal players were more accurate, winning the FA Community Shield trophy (which in the past was also called the FA Charity Shield) for the 17th time, while Manchester City has won it six times.

Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri were the two footballers who failed from the penalty spot.
