Arsenal have rejected an initial approach from Chelsea for Emile Smith Rowe, reports the Daily Mail.
Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add a striker to his ranks before the transfer window closes on Friday and the Englishman is among the names the Blues are interested in.
It was reported that the Gunners could accept an offer of €35-40m for Smith Rowe, despite the player having three years left on his contract.
Chelsea’s instructions have been met with short shrift by Arsenal, who have told their London rivals they do not want to sell to a direct competitor.
Sources, however, claim that a bid well above market value could tempt the Gunners to sell before Friday’s deadline.
But as things stand, there seems to be minimal chance of this deal happening. Sources have indicated that Chelsea have shown a willingness to include players in any deal with Arsenal.
Smith Rowe is among several Arsenal players linked with a move away as Arteta looks to recoup money after the club’s net spending of around €200m this summer.
