According to reports in Spain, Joao Felix won’t earn as much from his loan move to Barcelona, but he will have a much more significant hit to their salary cap.
Diario Sport refers to the information of Cadena Cope that the Portuguese will earn only 400 thousand euros from Barcelona and it is confirmed by their sources.
They say that Felix knew very well that he would earn very little for this season, but that it was the only method that allowed him to move to the Blaugranas.
The implication was that Felix would earn whatever was left of the salary cap, in this case €400,000, but La Liga would count towards his salary cap as €4m.
According to Mundo Deportivo, La Liga have calculated the amount (8 million euros net) based on a number of factors, including his age, his wages at Atletico Madrid, the cost of the player, his release clause and the market situation.
It’s worth noting that Barcelona loaned out Eric Garcia, Ansu Fati and sold Ez Abde in the closing stages of the transfer window, perhaps with a view to ensuring Felix and Joao Cancelo could move at the end of the transfer window.
