Manchester United were unaware that a police report of an alleged assault on a woman had been lodged against Antony more than three months before the club signed the Brazilian winger for over €100m from Ajax.

Rayssa de Freitas filed a complaint with the Sao Paulo Civil Police in May 2022, in which she claimed she was assaulted by Antony and a woman after an argument in a car after a night out in Brazil.
De Freitas, a law student, claimed she needed hospital treatment following the alleged incident. Antony denies the allegations.
Manchester United say they carried out due diligence on Antony as they do with all transfer targets before signing him, but that their investigations turned up no evidence of any allegations of domestic abuse or police involvement. with the player.
