Newcastle United broke UEFA rules by landing late in Milan due to poor weather conditions in the Italian city.
Competition rules state that clubs must hold their pre-match press conference between 12pm and 8pm local time, but Newcastle were unable to do so as their flight to Milan was delayed due to storms in the Italian city.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe’s press conference started at 21:00 local time.
“It is part of this job. It is not something very abnormal. It has been a problem over time, but we have already been in similar situations.”

“It’s something we’re used to, although we’ve come a little later than we’d like. It’s not a big problem,” Howe said at the press conference.
Newcastle could therefore face sanctions for breaching UEFA regulations, although they will hope that the fact that it was out of their control would only earn them a reprimand.
Otherwise, Newcastle will play their first Champions League game in twenty years this Tuesday when they face Milan at the San Siro from 18:45.
