Milan dominates, but can’t get more than a draw against Newcastle United

Milan and Newcastle United have played 0-0 in the first match of the Champions League.

The match started better for Milan, who created several golden opportunities to score, but without success.

Olivier Giroud, Tommaso Pobega and Samuel Chukwueze created good scoring chances but visiting goalkeeper Nick Pope saved their shots.


Rafael Leao made a nice move into the area, but after passing four visiting players, he messed with the ball and failed to send it into the net.

The first 45 minutes ended with Milan’s total dominance, but the Rossoneri failed to score and the first half ended in a 0-0 draw.


The second half started better with the visitors creating two chances with Murphy and Tonali, but without success to score.

In the 93rd minute, the visitors created the best chance with Longstaff, but his shot was miraculously saved by goalkeeper Spotiello.


Until the end, despite good chances from both teams, there were no goals and Milan and Newcastle United took one point each in the first round of the Champions League.

Milan’s next match is a trip to Borussia Dortmund, while Newcastle United hosts the French champion Paris Saint Germain at ST James Park.
