Xavi’s new contract will reportedly keep him at the club until the summer of 2025. So it’s only a one-year deal, not two as originally expected.
However, a ‘secret’ clause added to the contract will allow Xavi to automatically extend his contract until 2026.
According to Sport newspaper, the automatic contract extension will come if Barça win La Liga or the Champions League in 2024 or 2025.
It’s an interesting motive for Xavi, who already knows how to win La Liga, having done so last season.
Barca have also made a great start to the Champions League this season as they thrashed Antwerp 5-0 in their first leg.
The question is, can Barça win the Champions League next year? Barca fans can be optimistic, but not necessarily that it will be difficult.
