Guardiola forgets the elimination from Newcastle, talks about Calvin Phillips and City’s transfers

Manchester City were knocked out of the EFL Cup early with a 1-0 defeat by Newcastle United in midweek.

This way Citizens will have one less trophy to win, but for Pep this is not a problem as they have to focus on other things.

“The game against Newcastle was good. We played well in the first half. It’s football, you win and you lose. We feel disappointed, but we are already thinking about the next match”, said Guardiola.

He also spoke about English midfielder Calvin Phillips who had a difficult year last season.

“Phillips has a chance to start against Wolves, like the others. He is part of the group, he makes an incredible contribution even when he is not playing. I have no complaints.”

“Sometimes we look for something specific, Kalvin is perfect if the game takes place in tight areas. Newcastle was difficult. He helped us win against Forest,” said Pep.

At the very end, the Spanish technician also praised the new arrivals at City.

“I’m more than impressed with the young guys, playing at a high level. Some of them need a year, others can adapt faster”, said Guardiola.
