Mikel Arteta is hopeful that Bukayo Saka will play against Manchester City this Sunday despite the injury he suffered in midweek against Lens in the Champions League.
The England striker was forced off at half-time in Tuesday’s clash, casting doubt on his performance against the reigning English champions this weekend, but Mikel Arteta gave an update on his health at the pre-match conference.
“He is in a race against time, we will see how his condition progresses between now and Sunday. “Obviously he had to leave the field [against RC Lens], that’s never good news, but let’s see if he recovers,” said the Spanish technician.
Saka hopes to be able to play in this game and continue his streak of 87 consecutive games played with Arsenal in the Premier League, as we remember that he has scored in the last two games that Arsenal have played at home against Manchester City.
Mikel also gave an update on Thomas Partey, who missed five games through injury but was seen on the bench against Lens in midweek.
“He will be back before time, that’s for sure. We could have had him in the team if we needed him, but the way the game went [against Lens] we had other needs and we didn’t use him. He will be part of the team tomorrow”, concluded Arteta.
The match between Arsenal and Manchester City is played tomorrow (Sunday) starting at 17:30.
