Erling Haaland is undoubtedly Manchester City’s best signing, if not in the club’s history then at least in the last two years.
The Norwegian striker joined City in the summer of 2022 for €60m from Borussia Dortmund and he has excelled at the Etihad Stadium.
The 23-year-old has scored 60 goals and provided 11 assists in 64 official matches with the reigning European champions.
Erling Haaland has revealed the conversation he had with Pep Guardiola before signing with City, where he said that the Spanish coach threatened to destroy him if he did not give his best in training.
“Guardiola demands a lot in training. When I spoke to him before I signed here, he said: “I don’t care what you do, do whatever you want, but when you have me on the training pitch, you have to be focused. If not, it will destroy you”, Haalad reveals the words that Guardiola told him.
The Norwegian representative stressed that City’s success comes from their focus and training routine.
“This is Pep and City as a team and as a club. This is why they have been so successful. The pressure is there, they looked at the pressure we have every day as a club, as a team, as individuals”.
“But you have to focus on the one hour we have in training every day and the rest of the day relax, don’t think about football, don’t think about anything. I think that’s a big part of why it’s so successful here with all the staff.”
“After training, don’t think about football anymore. You think and develop on the field. When you’re on the field, you focus. This is what Pep is looking for,” said Haaland.
