Wayne Rooney has left DC United after the end of his contract with this club.

The former legendary English striker, however, is not expected to be out of work for long.

Despite the 2-0 victory over New York City, DC United failed to take a place in the ‘Play-Off’ and Rooney’s contract with this club has ended.

The Mirror has reported that the Englishman can return to his homeland, as he is the main favorite to take over Birmingham City, a team that participates in the English Championship.

The current coach of Birmingham City, John Eustace is expected to leave and the English club is waiting for Wayne Rooney to take over the leadership of the team.

“My aspiration is to one day manage an elite European club and in those environments, you are working with very different teams, with elite professionals from all over the world. I find I can get that experience here, which helps. me a lot”.

“At DC United, for example, we have players from more than a dozen nations, representing different cultures, religions and backgrounds.”

“So there are different challenges and lessons to be learned from that, and working with the All-Stars, the very best that MLS has to offer, that adds tremendously,” Rooney stated.

Rooney is now a free manager after leaving DC United and according to the English media the next few days are crucial for his future to take charge of Birmingham City.
