Real Madrid have shown excellent form so far this season and this despite the problems they have had in the defensive phase. Eder Militao’s injury has left Carlo Ancelotti with just three centre-backs, but the situation has been managed quite well so far.
However, with Nacho Fernandez suspended and David Alaba injured, Aurelien Tchouameni was improvised at centre-back against Osasuna on Saturday. The Austrian representative is expected to return after the break with the national team and with El Clasico at the end of the month, this is excellent news for the Madrid camp.
However, even with Alaba’s return, Real Madrid’s defensive problems don’t seem to be over.
Antonio Rudiger has four yellow cards so far this season and as reported by the Spanish media, he would miss El Clasico if he is booked against Sevilla in two weeks’ time.
With Nacho already suspended, that would leave Alaba as the only centre-back for the trip to Montjuic, so it would be no surprise if Ancelotti opted to rest Rudiger against Sevilla in order not to jeopardize his participation against Barcelona .
It remains to be seen how Ancelotti will handle the situation, but the last thing Real Madrid will want is to be forced to improvise with a midfielder in that position, despite the already confirmed absence of Robert Lewandowski.
