Barcelona’s economic vice-president, Eduard Romeu, has spoken about the rumors linking Lionel Messi with a return to Camp Nou.
Losing to Cincinnati on Sunday, Inter Miami lost all hopes of playing in the Mayor League Soccer (MLS) playoffs.
As such, Messi will be out of action at club level from the end of October until February, and another wave of rumors about a return to Barcelona has emerged.
Speaking to the press earlier this week, the economic vice president of the Catalan club, Eduard Romeu, addressed this issue.
“The return of Messi? We want to honor Leo when the circumstances are appropriate. He deserves it and we are looking forward to it. The rest are just speculations that we don’t discuss,” said Romeu.
What Romeu meant, is that Barca are not trying to re-sign the Argentine star. However, they want to organize a tribute game for Leo.
Joan Laporta, as well as the president of Inter Miami, Jorge Mas promised Messi a proper farewell from Barcelona.
The thank you match is said to be planned for the 2024/25 season, when the club will celebrate its 125th anniversary.
