A wall between the goalposts, Emiliano Martinez sets a new record with Argentina

Emiliano Martinez broke a record in Argentina’s 1-0 win over Paraguay in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Martinez was crucial for Argentina with his saves, already recording a seventh straight clean sheet since they were crowned 2022 World Cup champions in December.

The record of 609 minutes without conceding a goal is a new record for the Argentine national team and a great personal achievement for Martinez.

“He continues to make history with his records. I hope this never ends”, Rodrigo De Paul said after the match about Martinez’s performance.

Argentina are top of their group in World Cup qualifiers with three wins from three matches.

What makes this Argentina form even more impressive, however, is the fact that Lionel Messi was able to come off the bench for La Albiceleste in the win over Paraguay, while not featuring at all in the win over Bolivia.

Argentina are back in action again on Tuesday, this time against Peru in another round of World Cup qualifiers, with Martinez hoping to keep his clean sheet intact.
