It has been widely reported that Barcelona are looking to sign a new defensive midfielder next summer, specifically a younger option who could act as a natural successor to Oriol Romeu. Their list also includes Arthur Vermeeren, who has already played against the Catalans this season for Royal Antwerp in the Champions League.
Vermeeren is considered to be a young star and Barcelona have very good reports on him, having seen him in person on several occasions.
Unfortunately for the reigning La Liga champions, they are not the only side interested in signing 18-year-old Vermeeren.
According to The Express, Arsenal also want Vermeer and are said to have moved ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign him next summer.
It is believed that a fee of €20 million could be enough for the Premier League side to land their player.
Barcelona may be able to afford this if their financial situation improves over the coming months, but they are believed to have moved closer to targeting Gabriel Moscardo. However, it remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
