The coach of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, has revealed that the coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, congratulated him after the victory in the derby in the last match between them.

Arsenal finally ended a 15-game winless streak against Manchester City on 9 October when the Gunners beat the reigning Premier League champions 1-0.

After the match, Arteta had a brief exchange of words with his former boss, Guardiola, and now he has revealed what they talked about.

“Yes, I spoke to him after the game. It’s always like this, it’s very tense, it’s very emotional, a lot happens at that moment, but after that, the relationship remains intact”, said Arteta first.

“I’ve lost a lot more than I’ve won against him but, to be honest, in the last two games when we won the Community Shield and now in the league, the feeling is completely different.”

“He said: Congratulations, you guys are a great team,” the Arsenal coach concluded.

Arteta worked as Guardiola’s assistant manager at City for more than three years before being offered the chance to take over at Arsenal.

Now, his side are joint top of the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, while City are a few points behind.
