Chelsea striker Cole Palmer has apologized after revealing he accidentally threw a bottle at manager Mauricio Pochettino during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal a few days ago.
The 20-year-old was replaced after 84 minutes of play at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, having previously scored a penalty in the 16th minute of the match.
The London Blues were leading 2-1 when Palmer was sent off, but minutes later it was Leandro Trossard who scored for the visitors to level the score.
This match left a bitter taste for Pochettino’s men, who had more chances to score than Arsenal but failed to convert them.
Palmer left the field feeling disappointed and reacted by throwing a bottle.
Unfortunately for him, the bottle went in the direction of coach Pochettino. However, the former Manchester City star revealed to the club’s official website that he did not do it on purpose.
“When they scored the second goal I was drinking water. I threw the bottle to the side like we always do, it wasn’t on purpose,” said the Englishman.
“I only saw him hit the coach. I apologized to him after the match, I hope he won’t bench me because of that.”
Palmer will be hoping to help his side get back to winning ways against fellow London rivals Brentford and extend their three-game unbeaten run in the league so far.
