Lionel Messi has won for the eighth time in his career the most valuable individual award for footballers, the Ballon d’Or.
The Argentinian genius cruised to his eighth career triumph after leading Argentina to victory at the World Cup in Qatar last year.
Following Lionel Messi’s eighth Ballon d’Or win in Paris on Monday night, the Argentine’s long-time clothing brand partner Adidas has commissioned eight 14-carat gold rings, each honoring Messi’s achievements from each Ballon d’Or win. Gold.
Later this year, each ring will be available for auction, with all proceeds going to charities chosen by Messi and Adidas.
Adidas has also released a limited edition X Crazyfast. The Messi ‘El Ocho’ football boots feature a special design of the striker’s signature X Crazyfast boot with a new color scheme inspired by the golden tones seen at the Ballon d’Or award.
The eight balls on the side of the boot represent each year that Messi was voted the best player in the world. A golden goat’s head rests just below the laces of each boot, while the words “El Mejor Del Mundo” (The Best in the World) adorn the outside of the shoe in a decorative embossed print.
Given the doubt surrounding Inter Miami’s China tour at the moment, it is thought that Messi will debut the Ballon d’Or-inspired boots with the Argentine national team in the challenges against Uruguay and Brazil later this month.
