Man Utd shortlist three strikers to provide ‘support’ to Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are said to be targeting an experienced young striker in January to back up Rasmus Hojlund, with the club having already drawn up a shortlist of three players they like.

Hojlund joined United from Atalanta in a transfer worth around €80 million in the summer transfer window.

He is yet to open his Premier League goalscoring tally, but has three to his name, having scored against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray twice in the Champions League.

There is a feeling at the club that the 20-year-old would benefit from working alongside a more experienced striker who can also score goals.

United are considering adding another striker to their ranks as they believe the right reinforcement would help Hojlund’s development, given his young age.

The recruitment staff are monitoring players across Europe before making a move in January to ease the pressure on the Denmark international.

Brentford’s big-priced Ivan Toney is thought to be looking for a move away in the near future, with United interested.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also watching the 27-year-old, who scored 20 league goals last season.

Mehdi Taremi, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is also on United’s radar.

The 31-year-old has been in form for Porto since joining the club in 2020. He scored an impressive 31 goals in all competitions last season.

Victor Osimhen completes the three-man shortlist.

The Napoli forward has been the subject of intense transfer speculation following his incredible exploits in Italy.

He has scored six league goals in eight games this season, after scoring 31 goals in all competitions last season.
