A few months after leaving Milan, Paolo Maldini returns to the world of football

Paolo Maldini could soon return to football, as recent reports have linked him with a move to the Saudi League sporting director role at Al-Ittihad.

According to an exclusive from pundit Fabrizio Romano on Friday evening, the legendary former Milan captain is the main candidate to take the job at Al-Ittihad.

Maldini has remained unemployed since his unceremonious departure from Milan, where he had served as technical director, at the end of the 2022-23 season. Sporting director Ricky Massara was also shown the exit door in the summer.

During his time as director at San Siro, Maldini was credited with providing an important link between the first team and the board of directors. He was also known as the team’s main motivator, educating the players on the importance of representing Milan.

However, there were some questions about the Rossoneri’s recruitment and transfer strategy during that period.

Maldini would meet an interesting group of players if he were to take the Al-Ittihad job. The Arab club currently have in their ranks former Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, as well as former world champion N’Golo Kante, Brazilian Fabinho and former Lazio defender Luiz Felipe.

At the moment, the main priority for Al-Ittihad is to find a new coach, after Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked on Wednesday.
