Barcelona are set to make a shock move for one of the best players currently playing in the Championship (the second tier of English football).

The Blaugrana have been successful in their selection of free agents, signing the likes of Andreas Christensen, Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez without paying a cent.

And it seems that Barcelona have set their eyes on another player, with the Spanish medium Sport reporting that the Catalans have Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi as their main transfer target.

Ndidi became part of the “Foxes” six years ago, after being transferred from Genku for an agreement of around 17 million euros in the January transfer window.

He has made 250 appearances for Leicester, but Barcelona are said to be keeping an eye on the Nigerian midfielder.

His contract is set to expire in the summer, meaning he could be available for free, something Barcelona are looking to take advantage of.

Barcelona are on the lookout for a new midfielder, with former Southampton man Oriol Romeu currently enjoying life in Catalonia following Frenkie de Jong’s injury.

Ndidi fits the profile Xavi is looking for and was heavily linked with Bayern Munich in the summer, but the Bundesliga champions were unwilling to pay the English club’s asking price.
