The father of Real Madrid striker Rodrygo Goes did not appreciate Lionel Messi’s behavior during Brazil’s defeat to Argentina on Tuesday, with his son involved in several verbal spats with the number 10. He took to social media to express this .
During the first half of a tense game, marred by scenes of Rio state police beating Argentina fans with batons, there was a meeting between Messi and Rodrygo.
The Brazilian seems to accuse Argentina of being ‘cowards’, but was met by a reply from Messi – “How are we cowards? We are world champions”.
After that, Marca newspaper noticed that Rodrygo’s father, Eric Goes, had posted a photo on his Instagram.
“The little saint who never causes trouble with anyone… Is anyone surprised?” wrote Eric Goes.
This was ironically posted next to a photo of Messi berating Rodrygo and grabbing Uruguay defender Mathias Olivera by the neck just a few days earlier.
Real Madrid released a statement on social media expressing its disappointment at the racial abuse he has suffered as a result of the incident.
All too often, no matter what happens, fans of both sides will resort to the lowest forms of abuse after any flare-up.
