Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has confirmed that they will consider entering the market to compensate for Gavi’s injury at the end of the autumn season.
The 19-year-old midfielder suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament against Georgia while on Spain duty on Sunday night, something Xavi denied caused any anger at La Roja coach Luis de la Fuente over the treatment his about Gavi’s physical condition.
Since then, most reports surrounding Barcelona have been speculation as to whether Barcelona will try to sign a replacement for him in January.
La Liga rules allow the Blaugrana to bring in a replacement for up to 80 percent of Gavi’s salary.
“Gavi’s replacement? There is nothing to disclose. We will talk to Deco to see what we can do”, Xavi initially said at the conference.
“I am in contact with the president and Deco every day. We will do what we deem appropriate.”
“They know my position and I know theirs and from there it’s about finding a consensus.”
“It looks like we’re losing a player for the whole season and we’ll see what we can do and see if we can bring someone in,” concluded the Barcelona coach.
