Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will reportedly miss Euro 2024 with Belgium to recover from the anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in August, which required surgery.
Just days before the start of the 2023/24 season, Courtois was stretchered off in training after sustaining an ACL ligament injury.
There was some hope that he could return in April or May this season, based on the timeline, however it appears that Courtois is prioritizing next season already.
According to RadioMarca , Courtois has told Real Madrid that he will not go with Belgium to Euro 2024 this summer in order to work on reaching full fitness, along with goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis.
It’s certainly a brave decision if that’s the case, with very few players choosing to miss out on a major tournament.
However, at the age of 31, recently after two seasons that saw many classify him as the best in the world, perhaps he feels he has little to achieve with the national team.
There have been reports of tensions in the Belgian squad in the past, which could also play a role.
