Zidane fails with personal intervention to stop star leaving for Man United

Marca have claimed that Zinedine Zidane’s attempts to stop Alvaro Morata from joining Manchester United have failed, and that the Real Madrid manager was so keen to keep Morata at the club, he personally tried to intervene in the situation.

The fact it’s a World Cup year has also swayed Morata, who is keen to play a big part for his team this season and impress in order to feature in Spain’s side, which of course is full to the rafters with talented players.

Mourinho was able to tell Morata he would be important and key for United – and that’s the thing that Morata has listened to, not the pleas from Zidane for him to stay in Madrid.

United aren’t just out for a striker this summer, they also want a defensive midfielder, and it seems that they are looking in the direction of Monaco.

The player seems to be Mourinho’s preferred choice – whereas Nemanja Matic had been mentioned as Mourinho’s first option, yet it seems talks for Fabinho are progressing further.
